Airline Guitars
Airline guitars are a great find for vintage guitar collectors because of their lower end price. Airline® Guitars were made in the USA from 1958-68 by VALCO for Montgomery Ward and sold in their department stores. Eastwood Guitars has recently reintroduced the Airline brand name.
The most expensive and most famous is the Res-o-Glass model. This is probably due to front man Jack White of the White Stripes using one. It has a unique angular shape, and uniquely shaped shape pick guard as well as the placement of the knobs and switches. This collectable guitar can sell up to three thousand dollars.
Harmony manufactured Airline guitars for Montgomery Ward including jumbo and grand concert-size guitars inclding the four-string 7047 tenor guitar model, the 7069 with dual pick guards and the 8286 and 7026 models which have large white fret markers.
